A good night of rolling...

Its interesting to me how one night can go so smooth and the next night you just cant make anything work. Last night was great, I was getting arms bars, omaplata, chokes, sweeps etc... everything just worked. Of course last Thursday I couldn't make anything work it seemed like I really struggled with every opponent and still couldn't finish them. I wish I could understand what made the nights so different for me. I felt good both night going into class and sparred with many of the same opponents. I guess for now I will just have to attribute it to my mindset. It is true the more you feel like nothing works the more it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and vice versa.

hi again,
thanks for the responses to the last comment...
well about this one, yeah thats happened to me before too...its weird...but as you, i also think it has to do with the mind...
Man last friday i re-injured my back when i was defending a triangle choke. It sucks...so im probably gonna be out of the game for a a little while..hopefully ill be ok by the middle of next month because i want to go to the Ryron Gracie seminar in mcallen texas...we'll see...
when you were injured did you still go to class just to watch or what??
oh also, do you use bengay just for warming up??

Just like you Gerald I have just caught up reading all of these posts and will continue to check back.

One thing about your training and being able to get better and learn more, try to go to as many seminars as possible in the beginning, later on I think you'll actually get more from less seminars because you'll be able to absorb more and smaller details, so I hope you make it to the Ryron Gracie seminar.

On to a comment on this post, I've had really horrible nights sometimes where nothing connects, and since I've been rolling 2 years longer than most the people in class it gets frustrating. However, I once had to be out of training for nearly 2 months straight and when I came back it felt that not only was I rusty, but everyone else had picked it up a notch. The first 2 weeks back were humbling and unnerving to say the least, but days/weeks that are or seem bad tend to lead you to great days/weeks where your skill has really jumped.

Now, I can't say that will happen every time you have a bad day, but just use it as a learning experience and you really will take something away from it.

Lastly...I have a journal I bring to class that I write in when I feel I've found something I've done very well and when I've done something horrible and write what I need to work on...it's helped me, but it's just a suggestion.

Keeping a journal is a great idea steve. So far my only journal is this blog. I should probably keep more technique related info here to help myself a little more.

Yeah ive been making a journal too. since the first class i took.
I find that it helps me remember things that otherwise i may forget. Especially useful with the techniques. I also take notes from the books and dvds i read and watch.
oh and thanks for the tips steve.
But it looks like i wont be able to make it to the Ryron seminar. I just got my MRI results last week and its defenetely a disc hernia, so im probably gonna be out for a couple of months or so.
