Blue Belt Envy
So, of late I have been experiencing what I will call blue belt envy. Its not so much the belt they have that I envy but the skills that come with putting in the work to earn the belt. I was sparring the other night with a blue belt and just wasting so much energy constantly trying to defend he incessant attacks. I really can't wait to get to the point where I can relax a little while sparring so I'm not wasted after 10 minutes. Most of the blue belts in class can roll without breaking a sweat against any white belts. Its actually pretty amazing to watch.

Nice stuff.
I'm on my 3rd Jiu-Jitsu class, and so far it's been a real eye-opener.
From what I've seen, those blues are just so smooth they don't seem to break a sweat.
Liquid band-aid huh? Interesting, any tips for mat burns on the feet? :)

The liquid bandage is great for mat burns. I put it on real heavy over my mat burns before class and it protects the area well.
Thanks, good idea.
I've got to ask, are you the same guy who blogs www.gotjits.com?
-M
No im not, but its funny you should ask because I thought he had copied my blog when I first heard about him. Then I found out his blog was older than mine. Its a good blog though so I read when I have time.
Hi, I've got a question for you.
I'm an extremely lazy 19-year old girl who NEVER practised any sports at ALL. I'm slow and weak and clumsy.
Basically, I want to start studying (or is is practising?) a martial art. My aim is basically to work out while doing something fun that won't hurt too much (self-defense is a plus, but it's not what I'm looking for).
Would you say brazilian jiu jitsu is appropriate for me? And do you know of any other martial art that is similar (there aren't many schools where I live)?
hey man, im a white belt myself, dont worry. Just keep on working hard and push yourself harder. Cross training in Judo will definitely help.

i will constantly read your blog, pls keep us posted.
Hey Jude, it is both studying and practicing really. I guess it depends on the school but brazilian jiu jitsu works well for people without much strength. I am not very strong but can easily handle brand new larger and stronger opponents. As for being lazy I dont know, we have pretty tought workouts of 45 minutes before we start practicing techniques. I was pretty lazy before I started and I found it tough to get myself to go at first. But, after I made it a habit to go I got over the laziness factor and look forward to the workouts now. It is a great workout if thats what you want and can get yourself to go consistently. I ended up in brazilian jiu jitsu because I couldnt force myself to go to the gym because it was just to boring. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on the other hand is a great work out and you are always learning and challenging your mind so it worked great for me personally. I hope this helps.
-Thanks for the encouragement benj
-im glad people other than myself are interested in my blog.dptwwhof
